Does anyone know of any program upgrades that work to filter out pop-ups?
All the time, whenever I surf the web, a profusion of pop-ups, advertisements and what not, flood my screen and task bar. Many times, my computer will freeze as a consequence. |

I use the free version of Pop-up Stopper. It works quite well, although very occasionally one still gets through(I think about 3-4, since I started using it maybe 3 months ago).

Get a real browser.
Mozilla and Opera both block popups automatically. They also use tabbed browsing instead of opening an entirely new instance for each new page. Here's a list of some of the advantages Mozilla has over Internet Exploiter, which is what I assume you're using. Opera also shares most of these features. |

I would highly recommend Opera as a browser.
Once you use mouse gestures, there's no going back! ![]() |

If you don't mind spending money. Norton Internet Security/Firewall product is the best 3rd party ad/banner blocker I've ever used.

Opera has ads of its own if you don't pay. Mozilla is totally free. But watch out! Mozilla is really a resource sucker. I would use it if it weren't for that.
![]() Be careful, though. Pop-up stoppers or browsers with such capabilities will often prevent legitimate windows from showing up. Such cases are few and far between, so you shouldn't have a problem. I wonder what the ad industry will do with so many people using pop-up stoppers these days? ![]() |
