I am a big fan of beautiful POST-pubescent girls, as are 99% of straight males alive today. If I wish to start a thread discussing oh, let's say, a sixteen year old fashion model, on what forum should I post it? I thought the lounge was the correct place, but my Rebecca Stamos thread (link above) got moved to Elsewhere? ![]() Post-pubescent includes an age range (such as the 16 you mention) for which sexual pictures are not permitted by US law--and the server is in the US, thus bound by US law. With the Republicans in power they are engaging in a witch hunt about anything to do with sex, there's no point in waving a red flag in front of that bull for no reason. We are not clones, you will find some differences in exactly where we draw the line. To complicate matters, our personal standards might differ from what we enforce. I see nothing immoral in nudity, period, but if I came across a nude picture in my area it would certainly get turned into a link if not zapped. I want to continue to abide by the forum's rules perfectly. This far I have broken zero rules, though I have been censored many times. To me this is not logical at all, but I realize that people get emotional and mistakes are made. I haven't seen any meaningful topics associated with any of your pictures. The context is important. Consider: Normally US TV does not permit nudity. However, I've seen full frontal nudity on broadcast TV in special cases. The primary case is documentaries about various primitive tribes where public nudity is common. The second case is the movie "Schindler's List"--which has scenes from the concentration camps. Try showing scenes like that without good reason and the FCC (the part of our government that's in charge of broadcasting) will be all over you. However, in the right context, no problem. |

Thoughtful rational discussion is what we try to promote here at IIDB. We even try to have a little bit of fun now and then while doing it. ![]() As Loren Pechtel mentioned, we need to avoid images that may run afoul of some overly-zealous enforcer of some law. Also, many people access the site from work and some employers are very sniffy in what they consider "inappropriate" web material. Putting a link to the image (and hopefully explaining in the post just what the image is so that someone isn't being ambushed by an image that might get them in trouble) is definitely the preferred course of action. As far as the correct forum, that will depend on just what kind of discussion you are interested in. If you want to discuss the impact of the portrayal of younger women in the media, then Media & Popular Culture might be where you want to start the discussion. Discussing why you find a particular model un/appealing might fit in the Secular Lounge, or possibly Miscellaneous Discussions, depending on how you approach it. If you want to discuss the ethical ramifications of the exploitation of younger women in the media, then MF&P is likely the right venue. Discussing whether or not a particular religious system would approve of the image could end it up in General Religious Discussions, and drooling over the image would best be done in ~~Elsewhere~~, but don't be surprised if that gets closed (depending on just what tone you give the thread). Discussions of the impact of anorexia on young women could fit in Science & Skepticism, and a thread on if a religious group should be able to implement laws prohibiting viewing of the image might fit in Church-State Separation & Secular Activism. But no matter what forum you start the discussion in, you need to follow our rules as enforced and interpreted by the moderators/admins. If a moderator in Forum A closes your thread it is going to be bad form to open the same thread in another forum. If a moderator thought the thread was viable in a different forum they would have moved it instead of closing it. If you have a thread closed, and you think it should not have been, you can PM the moderator or open a discussion in the Bugs forum. Opening a duplicate thread elsewhere, or opening a thread that is just arguing with the moderator in the forum is going to be viewed with a very jaundiced eye. So sit back, relax, follow the rules, and have an interesting time conversing with the many interesting people here at IIDB. cheers, Michael |

I applaud this response. Thanks for taking the time to clear a few things up, Michael. I look forward to contributing some insightful and entertaining discussion to this forum, and following its rules. Sometimes all it takes is a little decency and fairness to calm someone down when (they feel) they have been treated unfairly or singled our for persecution. |
