We do not choose atheism. We are born atheist, naturally. We are born without religious and superstitious belief. We are not born clutching a book or a charm or an idol. We are not born with an angel in our skull, incessantly whispering prayers. We are born atheist, naturally.

Religion is consensual slavery chosen out of delusion, fear of death and desire for temporal power. Religion is imposed upon others as a means of enslaving others to the slavers' culture, prejudice and desire. Religion is antifreedom. Those men and women and children enslaved to religion, if they value their freedom, may return to atheism.

Atheism is the natural state of men and women and children. We are born free. We should not bow before books or idols or trees. We should live free. We should die free.

There are no gods. There is no afterlife. Magic does not work. Religious and superstitious belief is cultural junk. We are best rid of it.

Respectfully,

Grimly Fiendish.

I like being the odd man out.

I like being part of the vocal minority.

damn those damned compact majority...

(this also mean that should chrisitanity become a minority belief and atheism the majority...I'll be switching side )

I did choose being an atheist. and honestly a song helped me. See, pascal's wager scared be when I was younger. eternal hell would really suck ass. I had been agnostic for a few years, then nin made the song heresy. youknow the chorus. "your god is dead and noone cares and if there's a hell I see you there." and I thought, what the fuck, there really isnt a god, If I am wrong, so be it.

but it was the complete lack of evidence that convinced me, and of course xians resistance to science of all things for little reason.

Lightbulb Hmmm . . .

One does not necessarily have to choose to become an atheist. Afterall, we are all born atheists. Its the initial null religion state. Hence atheism could also be the result of not choosing. But then again the difference between not choosing and choosing none is rather vague.

I voted for other because of the "physical" qualifier. Most brands of theism emphasize the non-physical aspects of reality, so naturally if there was evidence for God or gods it wouldn't necessarily have to be physical.

Are you an atheist? If the evidence for god(s) was not physical, what other form would it take and how would we recognize it?

Depends on a religion, e.g. christianty has the notion of getting in touch with holy spiri or whatever, which is supposed to make everything crystal clear. If that happened to me, I would probably not care about the physical evidence.

I didn't "choose" atheism, rather it was a kind of rebirth that came about through and because of problems that I began to see in the Bible and in Christian theology, problems which led me to start to read "the other side of the story." Like so many others (including even priests, ministers, missionaries, etc.) who have had a similar experience, I couldn't help but conclude that "the other side of the story" was much more convincing.
