Violence.

Finding it easier to resort to violence instead of trading values.

Somehow footy wouldn't seem so appealing if Carlton simply "traded values" with Collingwood.

(Apologies for the Australian context.)

A major flaw of humanity is it's each person's subjectivity. I think if humanity was a collective conscious we would all be better off.

I understand this makes no sense. But I wish "we all could understand."

Resentment and instinct to punish. Us vs. Them herd mentality. Where else would the concept of heaven and hell spring from?

Failure to treat others as ends. Regarding others in accordance to race, sex, religion, or social group instead of individuals. Another manifestation of herd mentality.

Maybe I'm thinking along the lines of religion, and politics. For example:

Someone who believes in a god or something of the sort, someone who willingly throws out logic and reason - and chooses a fantasy instead - That's a form of self-decption. These people HOLD positions of power in GOVERNEMNT. All over the place. They are not only making decisions that affect their personal lives based on their fantasy/self-deception, but affect other peoples lives as well.

This is just one thought I had. I'm trying to figure out how I want to expand on this idea.

Not to say that all atheists are honest with themselves. However RIGHT from the start, a theist is already well versed in the 'art' of self-deception. This can't be good. And then think about this: Their are more theists in the world, than atheists, eh? well, I don't know the stats but from my experience. Anyway, this is just one example.

I think all of the flaws listed above could be overcome if humans were simply more logical. Someone give me a logical argument (both sound and valid) that supports one of the above proposed flaws. I dont think it can happen.

Every major injustice could have been overcome with logic. If all nazis had considered the logical flaw in hating jews we may have averted the holocaust.

Humankinds major flaw is being prone to illogical behaviours.

I would say our intelligence is our greatest flaw.

Other animals are blindly complacent in their combination of simpleness and need to survive.

All human problems stem from the fact that we are just too dammed smart for our own good, and yet not smart enough to overcome this limitation.

We are right in the middle of the intellegence scale, we are in the danger zone. We can construct all manner of amazing devices, relationships (nation states), and techniques (scientific method), but we simply use our dazzling power to cause ruin. We still have 'Basic Needs' which are in direct conflict with a utopian problem-free 'Higher Intelligence' world.

My 'Needs' may conflict with your 'Needs', and so we use our insanely huge head to defeat the other so that our needs are realized.

Who was it that said "With great power comes great responsibility"?

Personally I enjoy telemarking, playing with kids, watching the footy & listening to Janis Joplin, sadly none of these are logical behaviour patterns. Fortunately I’m quite attached to my lack of logic.

What is your logical reason for not hating Jews ? Or Chinese or Anglo-Saxons or Nepalese for that matter ?

I’d better quickly answer. There isn’t a logical reason. There are emotional and moral reasons, but please don’t expect logic to solve everything. In the end, everyone claims to be more logical than the next joker. You tell me who’s right …

I am baffled!

What on no gods earth makes you think that telemarkating, playing with kids, watching the footy & listening to Janis Joplin are illogical?

You are quite misguided to try to separate morals and emotions from logic. They are just as much a part of logic as anything else.

Thus:
Premise 1) I will obtain pleasure from playing with my children.
premise 2) I want to obtain pleasure
Conclusion: I should to play with my children.

or:
If a then B
I want B
therefore I should A
this is logical.

The logical reason for not hating jews is because there is no logic behind statements like "All jews are greedy" and "all jews are taking over germany". Both of these statements are demonstratably untrue, and therefore an argument like:

I hate greedy people
all jews are greedy people
therefore I hate all jews

Not logical because of the falsehood of premise 2.

All jews are taking over germany
I want to stop anyone from taking over germany
I want to stop all jews.

Not logical because premise one is untrue.

Your argument for non - genocide:

1) killing millions would be immoral
2) I want to be moral
Conclusion: I do not want to kill millions.

This is logical.

Why can't morals and emotions be logical, again?

Where did you get your premises from ?

Please show me objective evidence that culture does not affect behaviour. Because these cultural differences are exactly what the Nazis used to logically justify their actions. Please, can one find a nation which more personifies logic ?

Do you honestly think that you could have used this methodology to logically reason with the Nazis to prevent the Holocaust ?
