Default Los Angeles area Infidels - go see Julia Sweeney's show

Julia Sweeney has a one woman show (she says its a workshop - still a work in progress) called Letting Go of God. It's similar to her speech to the Skeptics Society. Extremely intelligent and funny, starting with her Catholic girlhood, and tracing her path through Bible study to exploring other religions, to finally giving it all up.

Thursdays at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood in the Alterknit Lounge.

She won't be there next Thursday, but should be there from May 15 through June.

Thanks Toto!!!! Hopefully I will be able to go... sounds good.

Wasn't her last one called "And God Said: HA!" (or something like that?)

I saw her perform a version of it at the FFRF convention in San Diego in November. I also have a video of a "rough draft" of it she did a couple of years ago for Michael Shermer. I concur - go see it! I may fly down to LA just to see it the "final version" at some point. She's great.

LA Times has a story about it here.

THOUGHTfully Yours,
Clark

Interesting story, but it underplays how firm she is in her atheism, although she did make the joke about how she didn't like the atheists' dress code (the existentialist beret).

When Robert Price spoke recently at UCLA in Los Angeles, she was there picking up material. (Robert Price got her autograph for his kids.)

She added a part last night about how her home town newspaper in Spokane, Washington ran a story about the recent Council for Secular Humanism conference in DC. It was a very good article, but the headline was "Sweeney Atheist." Her parents called her up, very upset. Her mother told her, "If you don't believe, you just don't say so in public".

I had no idea she was an atheist. I love her on SNL. Maybe I can drag my deconvert-ed/-ing girlfriend out to see it. Thanks for the tip!
