Well it is my job. The Catholic church* is taking advantage of her emotions to convince her she is being "called" to a life of poverty, drudgery, and solitude. I am trying to get her to see she is being manipulated by an evil organization before it's too late. I don't expect to be successful but I feel I have to try to get her to see the light before she throws her life away for the benefit of some money-grubbing misogynist dictators in Rome.

gemma, the only thing that tells you christ is real is your heart. children believe in their hearts that santa claus is real, but they always discover the truth, once they grow up. your christ is like santa claus: a pleasant fiction that makes you feel special and more happy, the same way santa makes children feel special and more happy.
A pleasant fiction until someone uses your belief in that fiction to get you to do what they want.

Not at all. The Catholic church is just the instrument for her Love because the Catholic church as an institution is the bride of Christ and the backbone of Christ just all women are in the Catholic church. The difference is that they do their work from behind the scene.

Nobody is anti-Catholic if they know the truth.

If santa is the foreshadow of Christ it can be argued that she has found the real thing.

It isn't a pleasant fiction. It's an obscene pernicious fiction.

I prefer to be left out of this " we" syndrom....also sincerity deserves to be greeted by respect not by demeaning and childish comments.

Gemma : I am sorry that your OP in which you expressed something rather controversial not just to atheists but some christians has engendered a level of " faith bashing" comments towards you.

Your faith I respect... I do not agree with the doctrinal aspect of what you express but I value your degree of sincerity in your choice to join a community. Let the mockeries stay where they belong... in the pit of untolerance and prejudice.

Despite of the fact I disagree with catholic dogma, I can relate to your right to choose what is the best path of life for yourself. I wish you growth and happiness in your endeavor.

GT has not always been sincere in the past. Couldn't we all (non-theists) just talk smack about the Holy Ghost and be done with her & all the other hardcore folks out there?

Sabine

Remember that Gemma is here by choice.

For one in her vocation she seems to have an awful lot of time to spend here. I'm by no means sure that she isn't a troll.

It has been my observation in this forum that not " all non theists" have the same desire as you express I can think of several who can maintain even handed discussions.. those are the ones who can have an influence on someone's mind. They are productive thru their thoughts and trigger in others the need to reflect.

There is no reflection that can be drawn from demeaning and prejudicial comments.
