I haven't seen this here yet:
U.S. Backs Florida's New Counterterrorism Database It's called MATRIX! It stands for Multistate Anti-Terrorism Information Exchange, which, interestingly, does not provide the 'RIX' initialisms necessary for the acronym, but what the hell? (Might I suggest Multistate Anti-Terrorism Risk Intelligence eXtreme?) Anyway, it seems to be some weird backdoor version of TIA, combining police records and "commercially available collections of personal information about most American adults." What commercially available information? Are they going to be buying crap from the DMA? Grocery store card data? Credit reports? What? Will they, perhaps, use that same highly skilled organization that scrubbed Florida's voter lists in 2000 to do the data mining and verify the information's accuracy? But really, my big question is: How viable would it be to just detach Florida and set the whole damned state adrift? I mean, maybe if we came out at night with picks and shovels? |
