What a great interview! Well worth a listen whether you support Dean or not. Cut and paste into your Real Audio and hit play. I'm not sure it'll work with Media Player or not... Otherwise you can go to npr.org and find the link there.

Well, based on that interview, there wouldn't be any doubt in a Dean-Bush race about who is the smart guy and who is the dumb guy. Unfortunately, I'm not sure which kind of guy the American public would prefer. The Mediocrity vote is pretty impressive.

Don't forget the fed-up effect. America is slowly getting tired of Bush and his tunnel vision. I'm optimistic!

Have you heard Bush's comments regarding Dean?

The more I hear, the more I like.
There is a big chunk of America that has extremely poor judgement about character and liked Bush because he was a comfortable level of dumb, and they thought he'd be fun to drink beer with [whuuuuuh...?]. That didn't vote for Gore, not because he was a watered down fundie or whatever, but because he was too bookish and smart. Scary, scary, scary. So the dumb-factor can't be written off altogether. However, I think that more and more people are getting overexposed to the Republicon's dominant message. The underdog conservative vs liberal media bias tack is wearing thin fast. Eventually there is bound to be a correction for the lopsidedness with the fickle public. So basically, if the Dems can get a candidate with a vision that is not only either Republicon-Lite or Far Left they stand a good chance of mustering some momentum. The Dems need to update their vision to become a new party, and they are having birthing pains and complications right now. The good Dr. may help with that delivery. [I'm starting to sound like a commercial!] One thing about Nader was that he forced change on the Dems. They were coasting and thought they could based on the public's fear of a neocon takeover like we do, in fact, have now. Nader called their bluff, they didn't deliver, and now we have the current mess. But I think they see now that they can't just coast and be Republicon-Lite. They are going to have to buck waaaaay up and deliver an actual alternative, electable vision. I don't know how it will all shake-out in the long run but I'm not sure there was any other way to blast them out of their fatcat complacency. Risky, distasteful, and thankless-----but he may have done some real good. I know I used him [Nader] for a protest vote with that end in mind. We're not out of the woods by a long shot, and some people want a more centrist Dem Party, others want a more traditional 20th century far left ideology Dem Party. I lean towards the former so Dean gives me hope. I like many progressive ideals and I think he is open to ideas based more on merit than ideology. I see it as adaptive, not wishy washy. Should be something for most of us that way, and he'll still be electable. It's getting interesting! |
