Exclamation Dr. Laura Renounces Orthodox Judaism

According to this NY Daily News's Daily Dish:

Quote:
"Dr. Laura" Schlessinger, one of the country's most visible Orthodox Jews, has renounced her religion. "I felt that I was putting out a tremendous amount toward that mission, that end, and not feeling return," she said on her syndicated show. Apparently, Jews just didn't send enough fan mail, reports the Forward. "By and large the faxes from Christians have been very loving, very supportive," Schlessinger said. "From my own religion, I have either gotten nothing...or two of the nastiest letters I have gotten in a long time"...
However, that bit of gossip is neither confirmed nor denied at her own site.

But that would make her a prophet without honor among her fellow co-religionists -- but one who got a much greater following among people of other religions. Just like a certain well-known Jewish prophet who lived about 2000 years ago.

So if this rumor is correct, will she become a "Jew for Jesus", just like Magus55?

(edited to add link to her site)

Good to see that her convictions run so deep...

Last time I heard, she was a Conservative Jew, not Orthodox. Did she switch to Orthodox recently?

She had converted to Orthodox Judaism about 5 years ago, getting there by way of Conservative Judaism. However, she's been known to call herself "rabbi" and "prophet", which are male monopolies in Orthodox Judaism.

'rabbi' also involves being schooled at a yeshiva, something she hasn't done.

Even though she started out as a Christian, she has the Yenta bit down pat.

Ah, that explains it. That's around the time I stopped paying attention to anything related to her.

2 months from now.

Caller: So you see, we had nothing to do because of the Blackout so we had sex, even though I barely knew her. But we had protected sex. But I think the condom broke because now she is pregnant. She bought the condom, so I'm wondering, am I morally obligated to pay for the abortion?

(Big thud heard on Laura's end. Producer runs in.)
Overheard: She isn't breathing. I can't get a pulse. Clear! *buzz*

I don't know about Christian, but she claims to have once been an atheist. Not sure if that persisted during her time on the board of advisors of Skeptic Magazine. All we can be certain of is that her godlessness coincided with her toplessness.

I had no idea she was once on the board of Skeptic... the site didn't give details, how did she get there?

Also, IIRC, she converted to Judaism when she married her current husband who is Jewish.

EDIT: Never mind, found a site that discusses it... http://www.everything2.org/index.pl?node=skeptic
