1. Why are you ahteist or free thinker?

Because God has enough evidence behind him as the Tooth Fairy. I have seen nothing which would convince me that he exists, what have you seen? I grew out of God just as i did Santa Claus, the only difference between the two was there was never an older kid at school who broke it to us God wasnt real.

2. What faith were you as a kid? or what was Your religious ubringing and education in as a kid?

I was brought up to make my own choice, a privelidge i am very grateful for. I did however have Anglican (deeply, deeply, deeply) grandparents who kept giving me Bibles and other such crappy religious paraphenalia, and i did attend Scripture lessons at school from Kindergarten to Year 4. But that was mainly to prevent the other children discriminating against me in a predominantly Anglo Xian school.

Evidence for what? If you want evidence for the shitty things done in the name of gods, including Islam's, all you have to do is look at the news and read the history books.

Once again barking of like some brainless dog.

Which is what the preaching of religious dogma is.

Islam is not complicated it just requires a bit of reading which it seems you fail to do.

And for the last time please open a thread send me a message and we can discuss Islam.

This thread is for my information on the reason why atheists are atheist. its not too discuss Islam.

You're too lazy to listen. We've HAVE done the reading and we have found that it is a load of nonsense.

Atheists are atheists because they have actually done the research and found it wanting. That it was pure nonsense. If more people did more independent thinking than religion would disappear. The only "reason" why religion continues to exist is that most people are sheep and don't want to think for themselves. Religious belief and faith are for lazy minds, since it is far easier to make up the truth than to actually find it.

peace

Islamic peace is nothing more than slavery.

I would like to know two things please:

1. Why are you ahteist or free thinker?
In the beginning, God really didn't serve a purpose for me. I didn't think of it. And then I began to study the Bible and the Qu'ran, and what I found there terrified me. I went through a phase of wanting to believe in God but hating the atrocities he committed. It soon evolved into an all out hatred. I wasn't the type of person who could be comfortable with such a negative, strong emotion however, so I chose to rather than believe in a God and hate him, I chose to simply not believe in him. Later, I started talking to other people who are atheist and then I was able to rationally build up a defense for my disbelief in a God or Gods.

I was raised part Buddhist and part Chinese Taoist...the type with all the little idols and incense where we pray to our ancestors for guidance and believe that the dragon brings rain and all that stuff. My family was extremely religious when it came to stuff like this, but they're also very loose, so my brother and I are atheist without facing any emotional problems.

I hope this answers your question.

Harumi

This information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks[/QB][/QUOTE]

I plan to order the book myself. Warraq's a brave man, considering his persistence in the face of numerous death threats and violent behavior he's encountered. I seem to recall him being on ANR not too long ago to talk about that and some of his other books, it may be replayed during 'fill in time' if anyone's interested. You can tune in to ANR at www.atheistnetwork.com

1. Why are you atheist or free thinker?

Because that is, ultimately, where belief in Jesus led me, to atheism. It just makes sense. In a weenie sort of way, I suppose I have the reading of the Bible and personal insight/experience to thank for leading me away from Christian dogma and into the arms of free thought and secularism.

2. What faith were you as a kid? or what was Your religious upbringing and education in as a kid?

I was raised Roman Catholic till about my mid-teens, where I then ventured out on my own and away from the Christian dogma and god.

1) I have no reasons whatsoever to believe in anything that has supernatural powers...
I stopped believing in Santa more recently than in God...

2) I was raised to believe what I felt like believing, pretty much, although part of my family was, and still is, Lutheran... I was baptized against my will when I was a few months old, but that's about it... My legal first name is Petrus (a name that is rare even in Sweden, where I grew up), which I believe is the true name of Peter... (just that it's not easily pronouncible to english-speaking people ) Here in the United States I go by my middlename, Erik...
