Arrow Story time: Tornado fun

I am a resident of Liberty MO (suburb of Kansas City, to the northeast), which is one of the towns that were hit by a tornado this last weekend. I'm fine, just starting a thread if anyone else was involved or knows someone who was involved with the storm.

(Note: Minor edits/omissions were made to the story, but everything about the storm/damage is factually correct. I'm just a lazy writer/typer)

1st hand experience:

I'm currently attending school at a university in Maryville, MO (guess which one!), which is about 1.5 hours north of the Kansas City area. When the storms came up, I was at home in Liberty, preparing to leave. We were driving the carpool this weekend, so we got in the minivan and went to a rider's house a few miles away. En route, sirens started turning on, so we switched on the radio, checking to see if something was really going on. The emergency broadcast system came on a few minutes later, and we were able to decipher "clay county" from its garbled message.
Upon arriving at the rider's house, they invited us to a short stay in their basement to wait out the storm that had just flared up. About an hour later (5:30 pm or so), we left the house and headed for Maryville. We passed some light damage, a few houses missing shingles, trees that lost 30% of their branches, a large trampoline had mysteriously appeared to the side of the road, etc. After getting out of Liberty, things were pretty uneventful.

2nd hand:

Background information: We are currently moving to a new house in Liberty. The house we're moving in to will be referred to as the "new house," the one that we are currently in will be referred to as the "old house".
I later got a phone call from my parents, apparently the old house had no damage, except for a lack of power (yet the phone lines still worked). Since there was nothing to do at the time and due to the fact that we would need to be moved into the new house within 2 weeks, my parents took the younger brothers with a load of stuff that needed to be moved into the new house. They had some difficulty, as there were downed trees and power lines (they didn't discover any of these on their own, the police had already been set up by the time they got moving) everywhere. They eventually parked the car a couple blocks from the house and walked. They likely got a little worried, as along the way, the damage to the area became more obvious. Eventually they got to the house, and while it had no visible damage, a large oak tree in the front yard had been completely removed (roots and all) and neatly deposited in an alley to the side of the house. We were pretty lucky compared to some people in the area, noticing the houses that were missing roofs, and in one case, a house that missed a second floor.

For reference, the new house is a few blocks away from William Jewell College, which has information about their damage here.

Glad to hear all went well, atleast for you. One good thing about the tree, you know that won't be a problem anymore in future storms, good news from scary news. Over in Ohio, we've had some fun. The closest I've been was about 6 miles. A tornado hit Stow and man, I've never seen the sky as purple as it was. I knew something was going to happen.

Twinsburg got leveled last year and some punks decided it would be fun to loot the victims. These jackasses were arrested and promptly charged.

Another reason I did come out to the midwest was tornados. I'm gonna have to chase one day, but I'll need some serious stuff to do that. Don't want to end up like Carey Elwes .

Oh, forgot to mention, although its not particularly important.

The tree that had been extracted from the front yard was apparently missing much of its mass, as there was enough room inside its trunk for small animals to nest there.
