Default Your tax burden

In the US today is the deadline for filing income tax. My tax rate is about 28% between state and federal.

Since most Americans believe that the tax rates for the average non-American is extremely high I would like to know what everyone else is paying especially our non-American friends out there.

About the same here... just a bit higher because of where I live (The Peoples' Republic of Minnesota).

I think the biggest tax reform that needs to take place is the way that taxes are collected.

They should NOT come out before people see the money. They should be paid at the end of the year by each individual, assessing the amount they need to pay based upon the income they earned during that year. That way people will actually SEE the tangible amount that the Federal and State governments are forcing people to pay.

I think that alone would be enough to make most people sit up and take notice.

Can someone explain quick what a value added tax is? Every explanation I hear is absolutely serpentine.

I don't make enough to pay income taxes, but I do pay 15% HST on most things. Though, our government gives a rebate on 7% (GST) of it. Mine totals around $224 per year back.

Exclamation

Americans, you're on easy street. I pay about 22%, and I've only got a part time job!

That's without even mentioning the GST... :boohoo:

I really don't see why Americans complain about their taxes. You're all on a damn' good wicket. You have nice low tax rates because you have almost no social services to speak of.

So where's the beef?!
