Wink intro + humble request for advice

greetings all -- have greatly enjoyed lurking while waiting for my reg to clear. This is an incredibly vibrant forum, all hail to II for their righteous vision :notworthy . Myself, lifelong infidel; have lived in the belly of the beast too long (rethinking that) :banghead: ; work as an independent writer/editor on the most interesting gigs I can muster; have roamed around East Asia and Europe as a journalist; also work as a futurist (new dark ages, anyone?). In my sweet short life never dreamed there could be a US prez this sucky -- my thoughts on christ haven't changed, but I am starting to rethink whether there's an antichrist

would really really appreciate advice from anyone on the following: I need to find noteworthy infidels (i.e. with published work or some other claim to fame) within 100 miles of Wash DC to interview. Could be emeritus. Would anyone care to recommend themselves or someone else? Is there another discussion group that would be good to post this on?

cheers, thanks, and glad to be here,
kk in dc

Hi Kristin,

Sorry I can't help you on your question. I can wish you a warm welcome to the boards though! Where in East Asia did you travel?

Hi Kristin,

Well, Singapore's the same old boring, developing-at-breakneck-speed country. What did you think of it? It's been very rainy the last few weeks (monsoon, supposedly, but I think it's doing it on purpose just cos I'm back in Singapore).

Hi Kristink

I'm just an uneducated old fart with none of the qualifications for which you are looking. But let me offer you one bit of advice. If you want to be taken seriously, dispense with those silly icons. They just detract from the readableness of your post.

Sorry, I should have added, in my humble opinion.

Is Philadelphia close enough? Margaret Downey of The Freethought Society of Greater Philadelphia is an interesting person. She is an activist more than a writer.

Default phila freethinkers

thanks so much, toto! (would that be as in toto the curtain-puller? love it!) I was actually in Philly for awhile last summer but somehow missed the contemporary freethinker circles (got plenty on my hero Ben Franklin, of course). will follow up.

There are lots in the DC area. Why don't you start with the American Humanist Association headquarters, 1777 T Street, NW, and ask to speak to Fred Edwords and/or Tony Hileman. Fred has lots of publications to his credit, and Tony is the Executive Director of the AHA.

Another well-known (and published) DC-area infidel is Rob Boston ([email protected]) of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. AU is at 518 C Street, NE.

Any of the above three could probably give you a long list of other DC-area infidels of note. But those three would be an excellent start for your quest.
