Here in my city, every year for the past 10 or so, a group of people take over the bandstand in the middle of downtown and read the Bible straight through for 96 hours or so.
They started Sunday PM and will wind up sometime Thursday (to coincide with National Day of Prayer). I know they have the right to do this, but what bothers me is the volume at which the reading is amplified. In previous years, I have driven by with my car windows down and could not hear them unless it was late with little traffic noise. I just drove by this afternoon at 3:30 PM and I COULD hear the gentleman even though the park is located at the busiest intersection in town. And just now, at 8:45 PM , the voice was very distinct while I drove past in the middle of the intersection. The bandstand is about 200 ft. from where I was. I wish I had the balls to get a group together to use the same bandstand to read the Bill of Rights and some things by Jefferson, Madison, et al. This crap drives me crazy every year!:banghead: |

After they are done, sit up there and read Origin of Species or The Case Against God.

Hi GaryP,
Do they have an event license that allows that level of amplification? I'd guess that your city has anti-noise ordinances, and you might want to see if they are running afoul of them. cheers, Michael |

![]() This is so weird. I'm really having a hard time believing this is real. Not that I don't trust you or anything. Do church ladies get to read the bible in the speaker or are just men allowed to read the babble? Do american christians allow the voice of gawd to sound female on loudspeakers? That question should be part of a test to evaluate the level of talibanism in a region... 96 hours... You have all my sympathy. I can mail you some snowballs if they don't leave as planned on thursday. ![]() Soyin |

From my local "news" paper;
In conjunction with the National Day of Prayer, a Bible reading marathon has been taking place at the Bandstand. Since Sunday afternoon, participants have read from the Bible -- beginning with Genesis -- around the clock. The readings will continue until about 10:30 a.m. Thursday. On Tuesday afternoon, adults and children from the Lancaster Area Christian Homeschoolers read in 15-minute time slots from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. "I think it's neat to have the Bible read in public," said Laura Burgett, a member of the Lancaster Area Christian Homeschoolers. "Even though there aren't (many) people walking around, the spiritual forces -- angels and demons -- are listening and the word of God is being proclaimed. http://www.lancastereaglegazette.com...ws/212999.html (I think the young lady is right. When I go by, there never is anyone sitting around just listening to the Bible reading. Demons and angels are most definitely the bulk of the audience.) |

They seemed to have turned it down today, so I don't think that would apply. I had to be on the sidewalk almost in the park itself before I could understand what they were reading. Quote:
Well, something to think about doing for next year anyway. |
