As far as whether God is spiritual or physical? Darned if I know for sure. I suppose, since God can be pretty much anything He wants to be, He could be either or both.

Anyway, next time I see Him, I'll ask Him. (hopefully not for a long, long time)

Is it the traditional Christian position? In would seem to be more recent spin doctoring. An explanation of why no one has seen god. Just as "free will" is a recent explanation of why god never does anything.
In the bible you have a physical god showing up all the time, walking in the garden in the cool of the evening, showing Moses his neither regions, etc. And god the father being a spirit would contradict the third person of the Trinity being the spirit of god.

IIRC, the church rejected the idea of an anthropomorphic god in around the 4th century, soon after the idea had become vaguely popular. Lessee: here. The last paragraph addresses C4th anthropomorphism & its rejection by the Church Fathers. The main body of the article is a wonderful rationalisation of OT descriptions of a physical god.

If that was jesus than he came to earth not once but three times.

Than we are waiting for his fouth coming.
