It just goes to show you how important it is to own a good set of towels. When you give a baby their bath those little guys get slippery. Without a nice fluffy towel it's easy to drop them on their heads.

That's where the expression comes from. "Cleanliness is next to godliness"...it's a warning to hold on tight.
