I think you might also find some religious right people opposed to this.

Uh-oh, now my heterosexual marriage is threatened! How you ask? Well, I'll give you some damn good reasons...
First, there's uh, umm, ya' see, it's like this; well if we allow gay people to marry then, well, uh, you know it's just not traditional... If that isn't enough reason to prevent gay marriage then I don't know what is. It's an ironclad argument!

Seriously though, I'm glad Canada is doing this. While it doesn't change ass backward laws in the US right now, it will have influence on them in the future. Same with the Canadians supporting the legalization of marijuana.

Who cares about the words of people who are obviously not capable of rational thought?

Apparently too many gullible God-fearers.

But it's a shame that only three countries recognise gay marriages up to now :-/ (being The Netherlands, Belgium and Canada) I really do hope this is just the beginning.
Aren't two of these countries high up on the UN's list of the best places to live in the world?

You don't say... These would be the same kind who also had opposed racially mixed marriages as well. Very backwards people.

Actually pot still isn't legal in Canada, it is just that it has been decriminalized.

Has it? I thought that this thing has been floundering in Ottawa for over a year now. Is it Provinicially like a parking ticket or is it locally like a parking ticket or is it finally nationally like a parking ticket?

Jat, Alberta may have its share of rednecks, but it's going way too far to say that the Klan would love it here. Alberta is quite diverse, especially in the large urban centres - there are way too many Canadians of Asian, African, and East Indian descent for them to feel at all comfortable.

There are plenty of Albertans - including me - who are incredibly annoyed, embarassed, and irritated that Klein is being obstinate about the gay marriage issue. At least he's tilting at windmills, and I hope eventually that the people of Alberta will understand that voting for the PCs often means voting against their own interests.

All of the above. You don't get a criminal record, just a fine. Though, if you're caught with a large enough amount you would be prosecuted.
