Durian: Looks like a big, spiky pineapple. Supposedly tastes very good. Smells like an unflushed toilet. It stinks up the entire Chinese store when it's in season.

Tell me about it. We live in a town that is predominantly Chinese immigrants and the children of Chinese immigrants, so my girlfriend has access to all sorts of weird/gross food. I generally don't want to know what it is she's eating, at least in some restraunts. Some of the tamer stuff can be quite interesting though (snake is actually fairly good, which suprised me).

Oh man. I just realized that I ate all the weird organ meat/creatures mentioned above. The only things I cannot stand has been what most would consider normal--yogurt and whipped cream. (well...I haven't tried roaches, but grasshoppers and jellyfish...tasty stuff)

Oh, and a kind of French Cheese that was downright smelly...it tasted like sheep hair

Default Eels

Jellied Eels, apparent a East London treat.
My Arse.
Tasted of nothing really, but the feel of eel skin, jelly and eel spine....

Just say no.

Tripe and feet/trotters/hooves.

Tripe only because I can't handle the deconstructionist self-referential symbolism involved in eating the stuff.

The others because I was never fond of pure gelatine (I avoid shark fin for the same reason) or boiled-up toenails.

Most disgusting thing I have ever eaten was fermented red beans, all oozing slimily, in Japan.
Never again.

Now I've probably lost all Ju'iblex's respect.

I will never ever eat eels, mainly because of two scenes in the film The Tin Drum.

OTOH, I love vegemite.

if you had just tried it, you would have found it was really quite nice! anf the same goes for jellyfish, ears and other parts of animals not exactly considered worth eating by most of the western world.

This is what I tell people about me, but many still do not believe.

My great grandmother would have pickled pigs feet and cold stew every morning for breakfast. How she always managed to have stew in the fridge puzzles me to this day.

I really am stunned at some of the foods that are considered delicacies elsewhere in the world. I would have real problems travelling in Asia for this very reason. By American standards I am probably a fairly adventureous diner. But I honestly do not think I could handle even being at the table while someone ate duck brains, fish eyes and some of the other items mentioned above.

I do not like organ meat. As a child my grandmother made liver and onions for me insisting that they would taste better than they smelled. Well, after one bite I puked all over the table.
