Default Full quote

"The facts of experience are summarized in the sciences. As a philosophy of religion, this book is an interpretation of science, but is not itself science. The science of religion gives the facts of everyday religious experience as they appear to the historian, the psychologist, and the sociologist. Philosophy in all its branches relies upon science and has no organized subject matter apart from the facts set forth by science. It is the responsibility of the scientist to gather the facts for the philosopher to interpret."

That quote is from the preface of E. S. Brightman's A Philosophy of Religion 1940.

BTW Happy April FOOL's day, though I must admit I have never been a fan of practical jokes etc.

The joke IMHO is the way so many words have changed definition over the years. Would anyone today refer to "religion" as a science ????
