Karma, anyone?

Anyway, I talked to the IPU, and she says you'll be fine so long as you feel bad about it.

Yikes! What's the dominant religion out there, Jehovah's Witness?

That sounds like a testable prediction to me. Have theists done any work to see whether honoring one's father and mother leads to a long life, or would this make a good creation research project?

Gee, jesus lived a short life, I guess that means he didn't properly honor his father & mother.

Absolutely right he didn't! When he said to his mom "Woman, what have I to do with thee?" , that showed a lack of respect (honor)

And another time: "I must be about my Father's business". It's fairly certain he didn't mean repairing a broken table leg, which was (reportedly) his father's business.

Radorth,

Quote:

The verse implies that you should not take advantage of impressionable children to feed them one of the 1200 contradictory atheist theories of who Jesus was, or wasn't, or one of your 12,000 distinct personal philosophies and sets of rules based on your unprovable belief there is no God.
You still know nothing about atheism, do you? I am an atheist, and I do not believe that no gods exist!!! Why are so many xians apparently unable to comprehend this simple fact?

Sincerely,

Goliath

And that God, unable to pull out the biggest gun in his arsenal a second time, will instead find ways to torture me in this life. Is there any backing for this?
The second part is almost certainly nonsense, IMHO. As to the former, there's a passage about "whosoever offends one of these that believe in Me...", but it seems to me that it applies rather to members of the faith who drive people away.

That reminds me. I've got to call up my old uni housemate and gloat about his famous "in five years, evolution will be relegated to the dustbin of history, and all of the universities will be teaching creationism" prediction from five years ago.

I think you should have learned by now that he's the king of willful ignorance. It's not really a matter of comprehension so much as willingness to comprehend.

Please do! I would love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation. Be sure to report back to us after you've spoken with him.
