According to a Jewish website, apparentally the Romans borrowed the cross from the Carthagianians, who apparentally used them as human sacrificial altars to their Gods.
Is there any support for this? If so, it shows a belief on sacrifice on a cross prior to Jesus, it seems...

IIRC there were three different types of crucifiction "posts". All three had widespread use. But I would have to look it up, as I forget where I read it. The nuts could be worshipping a tree, luck of the draw I guess.
