I'm now happy to learn that my dog wasn't the only one. My dog I used to have would often start humping my leg. Especially if there was company over. When doing it she also had a habbit or taking my socks off and shaking them.

From memory the daschund would chew vigorously on some toy, get herself worked up & then go off to pleasure herself on her basket.

Linking the dominance instinct with the sex drive sounds plausible.

(And we just used to think it was cutely funny.)
