Well him and most Democrats agreed about the threat Iraq posed. One thing that puzzles me is that some people tend to forget the Senate and House Intelligence Committees also have access to the same intelligence that the President has. For example the leak by Bob Graham that the 28 pages is about Saudi ties (which Bush defends holding back due to ongoing information). Graham wouldn't know anything about that except that he, like many others, are privy to this top secret information.

No because they would have made Gore look bad. Or vice versa maybe. I have a real respect for Gore. Not Dean.

If you look at most issues Gore is more of a moderate than Lieberman.

I want to make clear here that I don't think Lieberman is the most left-wing Democrat out there, but there are a ton of issues these politicians run on, and it's the rare exception where you find them disagreeing. Hence the lackluster snipping at each other for the last few months.

Outside the war, there is very little these 9 Dems disagree on.

I don't think the poor opinion so many have of Lieberman is due to the perception that he is conservative, because he certainly isn't one. But when Gore declined to run again for president, Lieberman seemed to think that he "inherited" the role of front-running candidate.

However, he chose not to become the public spokesman for those in his party opposed to Bush's horrid domestic and foreign policies. His failure to assume a leadership role led Dean and Kerry and Graham to fill the vacuum. Even if he is a supporter of the Iraq war, why isn't he railing against the mess of the so-called post-war Iraq?

IMO he is a timid, poll-driven hack whose beliefs stem from opportunism more than passion. That makes him a typical Congressman, but not presidential timber.

I disagree that this is true. The Intelligence Committees have access to more confidential information than the general public but certianly not everything that the President has.

Has anyone else noticed how Joe Lieberman looks like Mr. Lemonhead from the Lemonheads candy box? Look:

Actually, I think he's a clone of the actor who played the father in "Alf."

I totally agree that Lieberman thought he was the front runner because he was on the ticket in 2000. However he has even less charisma than Gore, and is further left than Gore. I think he's tried to fill that leadership role, but you lead by leading, not by sitting back and guaging the pulse of the party base, and watching the leaves blow in the wind to see which way to point the sails. I think Lieberman is slightly more consistant than the other white male candidates but only slightly more so. What amazes me is that Sharpton and Braun are exactly as they were before and have zilch support among the Dems. Seriously, shouldn't the most consistent candidates get a little more good press?

As far as access to top secret intelligence, I can't think of anything they wouldn't be privy to offhand. After all they are another branch of govt and without their funding these depts wouldn't exist. Personally I can't imagine how the President can even not release documents that the Senate Intelligence Committee has already thoroughly researched and approved. Bob Graham boldly says it's about Saudi connections (which I suppose should not have been leaked out if it really is top secret) and who out there can refute or deny his claim?

Arken, I loved your post!

Butswana, is that a play off of Botswana, the South African nation?
