We have tons of 'storefront' fundy churches down here. For a while I was a member of one that had its head office in Waukegan. They have an interesting use for their marquee nowadays: they use it to make statements about people that have left their group. Like this one: "Better to be with wise men in silence than to keep company with the conversation of fools." In other words, it's better to sit in the church and keep your mouth shut about our founding pedophile pastor than to get upset and leave. (Funny how just believing in God automatically makes you wise no matter how you act

).

In Bristol, VA this morning:
"'Good' without God is '0'".

In Elizabethton yesterday:
"Want to be clean? Get washed in the blood!". Not so much funny, but purely disgusting.

Okay, so it may have been because I'd just spent the past 12 hours on the road, but I laughed for nearly ten minutes when I passed a semi with the words "DO AS GOD WOULD DO" written in HUGE letters alongside its trailer.

In and of itself, not funny at all... but I couldn't stop imagining that the other side of the semi ought to have the words: "...SMITE THE FUCKERS"

As I said, it had been a long road trip...

That reminds me of a sign I saw here in Norfolk a while back; I can't remember the wording exactly, but it was some corny thing about brainwashing being good as long as "your brain is washed in the blood of the Lamb."
