The Holy Bible is a guide---such as it is.

A man made attempt with no divine interference or help (in my opinion) to explain some very strange happenings of 2000 years ago.

The scriptures have been corrupted tremendously ---which I am sure most atheists on this forum agree with. And so do I.

Does that mean that Jesus did not exist? Does it mean that He was not God come down to Earth? Does it mean that He was not resurrected?-----------Not for me anyway. That is the faith part of my Christianity.

As for the rest of it. I take-a and I pick-a what I think is "divine" in the Bible. Just like the Council of Nicea did.

I think I am just as smart as the imperfect and fallible Council of Nicea and all the imperfect and fallible committees afterwards that tried to define Christianity.

Months and months ago, there was a thread that showed a bible story that looked suspiciously like God sanctioning a herbal abortion in the Bible.

I can't find the thread, and was wondering if you all-knowing scholars could help me out, please.

Many thanks!
Don't do it Lunachick. You will grow to love the poor little sod one day.

Rational: So you've made up your own religion entirely. Cute.

In the meantime, what do the actual CHRISTIANS have to say about this thigh-rotting potion?

Not to want to keep stating this-------but I am just as much a Christian as any Christian born. Contrary to popular belief, it takes very little to be a Christian.

You just don't like my interpretation of Christianity. Too bad. Tough luck.

If you would be more contented just dealing with fundies ------I agree that is a much simpler thing to do.

Magus---I think they are calling for you.

Y'know, I actually understand where you're coming from.

When I started college, I called myself a Republican. Historically speaking, the foundation of the republican party was a fairly progressive movement, and my parents were republican, so I figured I was. (This is a true story, even though the number of similarities sounds suspicious, even to me.)

When I learned what the 'republican' establishment stood for today and was doing, I realized that I was no republican, regardless of how the movement formed, or what it originally stood for.

Anyhow, this just struck a chord. I could keep calling myself a republican, because I believe in certain party planks, but would that be fair to myself, or especially the Democrats, or Greens with whom I more heartily agree and who need my support?

Apparently, all you have to do is just call yourself a Christian. Then, poof! You're a Christian!

So you're saying this tea will actually cause a woman's THIGH to rot? I've never heard of a drink that could do that.
Have you ever seen the effects of Snapple?

Well-----a little more than that. All you have to do is believe that Jesus existed, was God come down to earth, died and was resurrected and POOF-----you are a Christian.

Could an atheist state that as a belief? Could a Jew? Could a Muslim?------nope. nope and nope.

Would a Christian have to state that as a core belief? Yep. Are there and have there always been differences of opinions among Christians as to what the rest of Christianity is all about? Yep.

Don't be so hard on Rational BAC, he is no different than 98% of all Christians (75% of statistics is made up, you know.) At least he admits it, and may someday come to realize that if you are keeping God in your pocket, you may as well replace him with a kewpie doll. Meantime, his religious perspective is much less harmful than that of those who don't make it up as they go along, eh?
