Thumbs down Simple Observation #5

Simple Bablical Observation #5:

Ref: Matty 5, after the "serpent on the mount" bable. there is a ferse* :
"You are the salt of the Earth. If salt loses its strength, what will it be salted with."

Now, most of you are aware what salt does to the ground: it destroys it.
Which you can see in the areas reliant on irrigation.
Like Imperial Valley, Californica.
The effects of salt on the agricultural base, the basis for urbanization and what passes for "civilization", have been known since pre-historic times.
Example: when Rome tookover Carthage, they salted the ground so that the city --and its empire-- would be destroyed.

Salt is a poison to the Earth and the Cities built upon it !

Therefore, even by this short example, in modern idiom, this bable ferse should read:

"You are the poison of the Earth. If poison loses its strength, what should it be poisoned with ?

*[B]"ferse" -- a contraction of 'farce' and 'verse'

Before the invention of chemistry, salt was a very important commodity, rare in nature. It commanded very high prices. In some places it was worth its weight in gold. there were two ways of getting salt. One was by evaporating ocean water. The other was to mine it from naturally occuring salt flats. Hence, if you had a patch of land that included a salt flat, you could be a wealty man. Since salt was rare and valuable, to be called the salt of the earth was a compliment.

More proof that the bible was merely a selection of stories from the time, and nothing more to me.

PS. I haven't read Bible 2.0 so I don't know if they've updated for chemistry, astronomy, physics, the failing of the second coming, Galileo, mormons, et al in it yet.
