Sullster,

Though these symbols, stickers, etc. don't bother me (except for those who look rather ridiculous covering up the entire rear end of their vehicles with stickers of any persuasion), I certainly admire and respect your consistency.

I was reading his post and spotted an error, that may be trivial, but maybe not. He says:

I find the "peace sign" a bit ridiculous but at least I know that the person in the car doesn't wish I was in hell.
I think it is a gross mischaracterization to assert that people displaying Jesus symbols wish others to be in hell.

Personally, I enjoy reading the bumper stickers of people of whatever political, social, ethical, religious, etc. nature. It reveals that the person has an interest in such issues, which is a good sign, IMO.

I like it when people display symbols like the Christian fish on their ads. I think it's GREAT! I have trouble making decisions about where I spend my money (since I move a lot) and that makes it easy. I will not spend money at those places I find Christianity offensive, and I will not help pay the bills of those that help spred this junk (even if them capitalizing on it is kinda funny).

When i see bumper stickers like, "Got Jesus? It's HELL Without Him!" I don't see anything very enlightening or informative. Basically this person thinks they are better than most of the other people on the road. Good for them?

Brian63,
Maybe it is a gross misrepresentation for me to assume that a person displaying a jesus fish wants me to be in hell, but I always feel that way when I see the friggin' thing. It is just me. I hate the damn religion.

Actually the "Jewery" was a typo. But I can see where it would make a really good joke. A Freudian slip maybe...

If one were told to remove a "Darwin walking fish" from their lapel (though personally I think that employers have the right to dictate terms of employment in such positions), I'm sure you guys would be jumping up and down in outrage. Or does it depend on who is exercising their rights?fromtheright ]
I would have a problem if the employer was discriminating, such as allowing Christian jewlry but not any other type. This does happen from time to time. I would also have a problem if limiting such expression did not have anything to do with the job.

However, it is perfectly reasonable and approprate for an employer to have non-expression policies if the employees are involved in public relations. While on the job, such employees should be representing their employeers and not their own selves.

The supreme court (?) recently upheld a police policy about wearing jewlry (such as religious theamed pins) on uniforms. The government has a reasonable interest in standarizing uniforms and restricting the expression of officers while they are on duty.

No, I wouldn't "jump up and down". Like it or not, the "Darwin fish" does make a philosophical or ideological point; and it satirises a particular religious belief. I would not defend the right of a newsreader or other person in a PR role to wear it.

At the same time, I can imagine an employer wanting an employee to "leave the Darwin fish at home" where they wouldn't say the same thing about a crucifix lapel badge. Such is the hypocrisy of the world we live in.

I saw quite a bit of this when I was living in the South (see THIS topic for more), and it always got me.

I was reading this and thought that I would just drop a line into the meaning of the jesus Ichthus for everyone. http://www.atheists.org/church/fish.html
I have done a bit of research aside from this page and have found that this one sums it up fairly well on its own.
Good one, Game! I've seen this before and it makes me laugh! There's another site somewhere, I think I had it saved once, that shows (in some graphically drawn detail) how the "jesus fish" came from an open vagina! Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I'll have to see if I can find that link.
