Hip Hip for the mention of cognitive dissonance! That is the first thing that popped into my head as I was reading along....Cognitive Dissonance can manifest physically if a person is unable to process the new info which leads to one of my favorite (if awful) jokes:

Person 1 who has just found out something that alters his world view:
What was that horrible sound?

Person 2: The paradigm shifting without a clutch!

Feel free to throw tomatoes at me!
