Yesterday I watched a TV program on one of the science channels that showed, in graphic detail, what *really* happens to us after we die. I'll spare you all the details but let's just say that there are a lot of insects involved.

After watching that program I really started to see why so many people cling to religious fantasies. Sometimes the reality of a situation is just too scary to accept.

I frickin' terrified of dying. Not of how I will die, but of not existing.

But that doesn't make it any easier to believe fanciful stories about a supernatural afterlife.

Well, if someone told me I was going to die via extreme torture, or perhaps be set on fire or something, then I'd be terrified of that. I'm not a huge fan of pain. As it is, however, I can always hope that my death will not be so extremely painful. By some accounts it seems it can even be quite pleasant in the end (you know, as all your neurons die and fire off randomly).

Yes, you become worm food. And bug food.

But only if you are buried or if your body is left out in the open.

You can avoid such a fate by getting cremated, however.

And if you sink to the bottom of some place like San Francisco Bay, you may become crab food.


A curious custom that some have had is to put a corpse on a platform and let the vultures come by eat the flesh.

And there are even people who have eaten their dead relatives.

If you live a fullfilling life, you won't mind dieing. To bad its human nature to always want more.

Although I definitely don't look forward to dying anytime soon, I think that when I do finally die I'll actually be interested. Though I don't believe anything comes after it, on the off chance I'm wrong, I think the 'next' world would be completely different from what anybody (or any religion) has described. I'll look to it as a new experience.

I still prefer to get the most out of this life first though!

Death. A serious design flaw to say the least.

Alot of us here will probably live for a very long time... If you can hold out for another 20-30 years I think we will have this whole death think taken care of.

When we do see such a time, I would feel a sense of guilt. The same kind of guilt people feel when they make it out alive in a situation where many people lost thier life. Of the 28 billion people who came before us, we make it out.

I'm just scared of a painful death. I'm not scared of no longer being. It's not like I'll be aware of it.
