From Carrier's review,

Quote:
Several scholars who reviewed or commented on it have said this book will revolutionize the field of Gospel studies and profoundly affect our understanding of the origins of Christianity, and though I had taken this for hype, after reading the book I now echo that very sentiment myself.
Has this occured?

Also such as David vs. Goliath, Solomon's wisdom and Samson's story seem to have strong heroic overtones as well. In fact, most of the pre-split monarchy stories seem to be more mythic. When we reach the later books of the OT we get deeper into real history(History at the time the books were written) and the stories become less mythic and more political.
