Gandhi would be another easy choice, however I never read any of his biographies.

*Tongue firmly placed in cheek*
What about a biography of one of these internet bubble capitalists? You know, one of the people who started a firm without any product whatsoever, got graded by their cash-burn-rate and shortly thereafter (when the bubble burst) went titsup.com? I seem to recall that of the so-called "New Leaders" who had had such astounding success some did write autobiographies. You could add to your essay how these ermm.... leaders failed spectacularly, but then your teacher would hate you even more ![]() Other than that, what about Machiavelli: Il principe? As far as I know, he is the man who first expressed ideas on leadership and success without a lot of religious baggage, and is thusly deemed the first modern author on that subject. On second thought, he wrote a manual and not an autobiography, so Il pricipe doesn't qualify. |

Disturbing the Peace: A Conversation With Karel Hvizdala by Vaclav Havel & Karel Hvizdala
If Havel doesn't qualify as a great contemporary leader, I don't know who would. |

Why don't you take it one step farther and hand in three essays?
One on each book you choose from the ones you get here, and one on the OTHER people who were with Todd... The ones who have no relatives MILKING the populace. Todd didn't do it singlehandedly. |

I think Vaclav Havel is a great leader, and so my vote goes to the suggestion of Darwin's Finch.
I'm quite sure Mikhail Gorbatschow has also written an autobiography, maybe thats also worth a read. |

perhaps also an essay about the differences between a 'leader' and a 'hero' is in order... perhaps to be published in your school magazine...
(am I making enough extra work for you yet?) |

or how about the seven astronauts who just died--- they were leaders in science and space exploration, and a bit more 'contemporary'...

Are there any good lesbian biographies you can think of. Just a suggestion.
