Default American Jews and Isreal

How closesly do American Jews identify with Isreal? Do most American Jews support the actions of Sharon and his aggressively militant policy against the Palestinians?

The reason I ask is after the recent comments by Jim Moran, Congressman from Virginia suggesting that the Whitehouse policy regarding Iraq was being controlled to some degree by right wing Jews the GOP is now targeting Jews for 2004.
GOP Uses Remarks to Court Jews

I have heard that polls show that there is not a signifigantly larger number of Jews supporting action in Iraq compared to the general public. I just wonder how closely American Jews identify with their Isreali brethren.

Why are they my brethren? Just because most of them happen to be Jews as well?

I'm willing to bet you get a full range of responses. Some American Jews will be highly Zionistic. Some don't care about them at all.

I don't even identify with New York Jews, let alone Israeli ones.

I really didn't want to use brethren but could think of no better word at the moment. I hope I did not offend.
