The evolutionary trend is not obliged to create smarter humans, unfortunately. It is possible for us to override this 'flaw,' but the practical difficulties are enormous.

It seems to me that infertility rates are rising in 1st world countries (could possibly be due to environmental factors? Pollution, steroids and antibiotics in food etc.). Does anyone know if this is an actual fact, or if it is just more visible/discussed now?
Of course I am just throwing this out there as a thought, maybe some studies have been done, but I can't find anything. |

A few of my predictions of future evolutionary changes in humans (assuming society freezes where it is) are:
Tougher bodies to survive automobile accidents. Innate phobias of electric sockets. Huge motivation (causing mass competition) to donate sperm to sperm banks. |

The next speciation event could also be freefall adaptations. If we get into space in a big way (and we may HAVE to to overcome the resource depletion problem) then there will be very different selection pressures for the spacers and the groundlings. Homo asteris would need better radiation resistance, bone retention in zero-gee, and better 3-D perception. (Ever notice how most folks tend to look around but not up?)
