Default Anyone But Bush Again (ABBA)

From AlterNet :

Quote:
ABBA is an SOS to those who didn't want George W. Bush the first time, which was most of us, and those who don't want an encore. It has no Democratic disorganization: the focus of ABBA is sharp enough to shave a pig. All you have to do is one thing: vote for the one guy running against Bush who has a shot of winning. One guy. Case closed. The ballot shouldn't be big enough to make a butterfly. It shouldn't be big enough to fold. There should be two choices: Bush and the ABBA candidate, our guy. If anyone tries to Naderize this thing, we lob stuff at them old fruit, chairs, opened paint cans until they quit.

ABBA is doomed for two reasons.

1. Their unfortunate name, which conjures up images from bizarre and otherworldly Swedish disco bands.

AND

2. We'll have another war or "terrorist incident" right before the primaries, and Bush will ride the jingoist wave right into a second term.

In addition, what makes you so sure there will BE another election? Said war or "terrorist event" could just as easily be used for "suspending" the election indefinately.

These are serious people, Jewell...They will do anything to win...

The name isn't the most attractive, but it is creative. But there is that tune that I just can't get out of my head now...

Sadly, I can see just a senerio. Didn't Giuliani try to suspend the election in NY after 9-11 so that he could stay in office?

I'm trying to keep my spirits up, but it is getting increasingly difficult with the Shrub and his reactionaries in office. <sigh>

Oh, I'm sure there will be an election. The question is whether or not they'll bother to give black people their voting rights this time around. See Greg Palast's analysis of the Florida election debacle. 57,000 names taken off the voter rolls. 90% of them innocent. 54% of them black.

Why do something as blatant as suspend elections when you can do something much, much more insidious?

I don't need Greg Palast to tell me Jeb and his AG were so crooked that it took 3 State Cops to screw their pants on in the morning.

No, considering that unemployment is at it's worst since 1983, the deficit is out of control, and the war in Iraq was a resounding flop, Bush is going to have to disenfranchize more than the Blacks, who constitute 13% of the US population.

He'll need a bigger margin than that.

Well, WE have a precedent for a scenario like this as well...or close to it.

Refer to American history, 1760-1786.
