If you've spent any time with God at all you want to spend eternity with Him.

It's funny how Martin (in his article "the problems of heaven") noted that if heaven is what the bible claims it to be like (however vaugly) we would simply be born there. Why would someone be born on earth first only to become a mindless robot for eternity. You are sopposed to have free will in heaven yet no crimes are commited, but it is claimed that crime happens on earth becuase of free will.
The idea of living in heaven just freaks me out. |

Well, you can bet god's not gonna make the same mistake he did with Lucifer. The "seal of god" is probably some sort of explosive device triggered to annihilate you if you actually try to exercise free will.

I'm trying to figure out if that axe that god's playing is a Gibson or a Fender. Edited to add: If by some "miracle" I do make it into that heaven, I'm sure that I'd wind up with one of those behind-the-stage obstructed view seats! [ October 09, 2002: Message edited by: Matt ]</p> |

In my conception of an afterlife, which I don't believe in, there is no individuality. Our consciousness gets subsumed into the universal "oneness" of life, just as the chemicals that make up our bodies gradually get reintegrated back into the earth's biosphere and, eventually, a stellar dust cloud. Imagine heaven as a big ball of light, and our lives as arcs that fly off and return. If enlightened individuals had some inkling of this and tried to explain it to the masses, I imagine the masses, in their limited understanding, would visualize it in human terms, much like the pictures linked to above.
If I were to exist in the afterlife as an individual, I would want to see how earth history progresses and check out the rest of the universe. Otherwise I'd just get stoned all the time. After 50 years or so it would get boring, and I'd decide to quit. "Tomorrow I'll quit" I'd say. This would go on for eternity. |

MM: If that's an answer to the initial question, and you are thinking of the xian heaven, you may be disappointed. Doesn't it say somewhere that there's no sex in heaven? You'd do much better with the muslim heaven.
