There's a nauseating thought. That would make Jeb Bush and former Florida Secretary of State (now Congresswoman!!) Katherine Harris tools of the Almighty instead of plain ol' tools.

I really hate to say it, but I think we've lost the battle to keep church and state separate. And now that Bush is packing the courts with scores of right-wing judges it's only going to get worse. Get ready for creation science in the classroom, faith-based "abstinence" education, tax dollars for churches, and mandatory school prayer. It'll be just like the good ole days.
Umm.... no it isn't. Are you sure you're looking at the real white house web page? Whitehouse.org is just loaded with christian drivel.... but it's a parody site. (I think they're affiliated with Landover if I remember right.)

Don't get me wrong.... the second half of your post I pretty much agree with.

I'm talking about the REAL White House page, not the parody. At whitehouse.gov "Jesus" is mentioned 24 times, "Christ" is mentioned 27 times, "faith" is mentioned an astonishing 952 times, the "Almighty" is mentioned 66 times, "God" is mentioned 780 times, the Bible is mentioned 24 times, "prayer" is mentioned 357 times, "our Creator" is mentioned 4 times, "Scripture" is mentioned 4 times, and "Savior" (as in, "our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ") is mentioned 4 times.

And all of this crap is on a U.S. government website that is supposedly neutral when it comes to religion.

That's pretty bad. Hopefully, any one looking for the website will end up at whitehouse.com.
While driving to work this morning(2 hours because of snow), I came to the conclusion that "compassionate" really meant "christian". Sneaky fucking bastards.
Seems that he sees himself as The Great Missionary. Hand picked by the lord himself to spread the turd.

Look.... I agree that there are problems, and he clearly goes off the deep end. But let's not overstate thing here. How many of those 27 references to 'Christ' are due to the fact that the sidebar of a bunch of the pages lists official holiday events for the white house? (Christmas.) How many of the others come from Bush's speeches? (Many of them archived on the site? His constant references to religious crap are distressing, I'll agree... but they hardly amount to the white house's web page becoming cbn.com.) How many of them are listed in archived versions of other people's speeches? (A lot.)

Simple text searches are all well and good, but they generally don't tell you much. Context is important.

Being alarmist doesn't help us unless there's a serious problem, the fact that a bunch of websites mention christmas events isn't it.

Don't forget reproductive rights. The damage the fundies have done over the last few years will be legitimated in law. Watch for Roe v. Wade to be overturned.

Pennsylvania just made the flag salute mandatory. Prayer's next, without a doubt.

Just wait for them to impose it legally and get told where to shove it. What's the betting they'll introduce blasphemy etc laws? Or other penalties for not showing them and their religion they imagine they deserve?

Today's speech brought the most thorough linkage yet between Bush's worldly policies and Christian faith -- including a pronouncement that an American attack on Iraq would be "in the highest moral traditions of our country."
Finally Shrub as said something that I can agree with. An Iraqattack goes nicely with our compassionate treatment of the First Nations tribes, our historical respect for people from Africa, our understanding treatment of Asians (both before and during WWII), and our support for humanitarian regimes in Latin America.
To say nothing of our previous support (or acceptance) of Saddam's use of poison gas against the Iranians...

Vancouver looks better and better... (I just came back from a visit there and it is a pretty incredible city compared to Seattle, you would not believe the number of new high-rises on the waterfront. They have a public transportation system that works.)
