OK, you're saying Pascal's Wager cannot be resolved without resorting to an authority, not that the wager itself is incomplete. Didn't make sense to me - bookies won't take bets on races after they've been run!

I just want to know if you posted this with a straight face. Irrational fantasies in any other religions we know of? Some dude being 100% God and 100% human and sacrificing himself to himself to save us from himself is rational and non-fantastic?

Hrmm....ok....

But, more importantly, the basis for the argument is still sound. Vampires also have an incredible weight of history behind them, and they certainly pass your 'irrational fantasy' test as well as xianity with its own blood-drinking motifs.

Since you implicitly agreed that the argument alone (outside history): "Do X because you've nothing to lose and so much to gain" is equally valid for vampire-protection as it is for god-belief, and since vampires do carry a weight of history with them, and since they pass your "rational and non-fantastic" test as well as the bible (do we really need to drudge up every fantastic episode or will you give us a certain amount of the fantastic within the pages?) can we assume you're wearing a garlic necklace now?

But I am glad that you agree, when examined as a stand-alone argument, the need to wear garlic in K's wager is as pressing as the need to believe in a god in Descartes'.

Heh, I'll take that as that famous wit of yours. (It did make me smile, so thanks.)

So if I prove god is illogical you will cease respecting the thing that wasn;t there to respect in the first place?

What? Authority or Logic?

Dear John,
You are equating your choosing of a religion with your choosing the people in that religion. Choose your social club that way, not your religion.

The Nazi part sucked, tho it contained some highly refined intelligent and morally good people. The Catholic Church is the most rational, internally consistent religion on the face of the earth. But 95% of Catholics and probably 99% of the Catholic hierarchy is heterodox.

Ergo, don’t pick your shelter by the people huddling in it, but base your selection on the shelter itself. For religious shelter, longevity and rational consistency should be the criterion guiding that decision. Obviously, I find those things in all the things you mention, O.T. Nicene Creed etc. – Sincerely, Albert the Traditional Catholic

What about **** JUDAISM ****
It's an also-ran. Comes in as a close second. But its hereditary priestly class, the Levites, were slaughtered by the Romans in 70 AD. That marked the end of Judaism as a religion. It's now, at most, only a belief system. -- Albert

The Catholic Church is the most irrational, internally inconsistent religion on the face of the earth. Only 5% of Catholics and probably 1% of the Catholic hierarchy is heterodox.

Wow, I supported that statement as well as you supported yours. Let's try some more unsupported facts and figures.

100 out of 100 Catholics surveyed chose Trident and are 100% wrong about all things religious.

99.9876 percent of all evil acts ever performed were perpetrated by the Traditional Catholic Church.

If you say so. But then you go and blow your cover by saying:
Quote:
I respect Authority based on LOGIC
Ergo, my premise stands, you as a liberal have an aversion reflex reaction to authority. Authority buttressed with logic is all you will bow down to. Well, you might just as well say you only bow down to logic. What does Authority have to do with it?

Dear Angrill,
As long as you really believe this:
Quote:
Some dude being 100% God and 100% human and sacrificing himself to himself to save us from himself is rational and non-fantastic?
You’re safe from Him. You see, Catholic theology has a little known loophole for people like you, it’s called “invincible ignorance.” It even applies to liberals. Look at it as your get out of hell free card.

If you honestly believe the Catholic God is a beast, He won’t act beastly towards you. The operative word is “honestly.” So I suggest you stop reading my posts as there’s a danger they may shred your last remaining pretense to honesty. – Cheers, Albert the Traditional Catholic

P.S. I generally have a smile on my face when posting. Especially in so blatantly an un-serious group as this that K has necklaced together
