Neil Young. Good musician, horrible singer.

I never thought Van Morrison could sing very well either, or Robert Plant, or Elvis Costello, or David Byrne.

As for women, while Joplin sang her heart out in her songs, I would find listening to an entire album of hers, torture. I also find myself cringing listening to Sheryl Crowe.

BTW,that lalalala..lalalalaooooooo singer's name is Minnie Ripperton.

It's admirable when a musician will admit that he/she can't sing. Leo Kottke, that fabulous guitarist, described his voice as sounding "like goose farts on a muggy morning."

Robert Plant once described his voice as a "girlish whine" IIRC

oh I will say I HATE Robert Smith and Bono's vocals. I can't stand to listen to the Cure or U2 because of them. (well im not sure I could stand to listen to most of the cures shit even if Yorke was singing)

and as much as I like Tom Waits's music, his voice is normally just too bad to handle.

Check out some of his older work. The newer stuff (particularly the soundtrack for his musical, "Alice") is rather strange and distorted-sounded - quite frightening. The older stuff isn't really cuddly by any means, of course!

Hm, that was Minnie Riperton, as I recall. It was a lousy song, compared to her work with Rotary Connection.
MY bugbear is Phill Collins; everytime I hear him I want to smash the speakers.

Jon Lord played keyboards for Deep Purple. On occasion he used to claim that Deep Purple owed a lot to his organ.

Now why did I mention that ? Oh yes, Ian Gillan. Turning screaming into an artform, Child in Time.

I love that song.

I can't stand the guy from smashing Pumpkins (mentioned by a few above). He sings like someone trying to sing along to the radio. Ever notice how people doing that make it sound like their far away. They keep their voice down and change the pitch a bit so as to feign some grand scale singing done to far away to hear. Billy is always doing that. He's a coward; he should belt it out and whatever happens happens. I would like that band if it weren't for his pseudo-singing. UGH!!

Ooops, my mistake. Sorry about that.

Try again, perhaps?

I'll add Lou Reed. My wife hates him so much that all of my Velvet Underground CDs have mysteriously disappeared I still have the cases, but I havent seen the CDs in years
