Could a former Taliban soldier be granted asylum not only that but the legal fees were paid for by British tax payers. Oh and nobody knows which city he's in now or what he's doing.

The powers that be kept this one very quiet didn't they??? Joe Bloggs the public only found out today and it happened 8 months ago.

What's the bloody point of home security when they're letting enemies of the state live quite happily here???

Ahh the virtues of a fairly free press... your country's dirty laundry gets aired for the world to see. Your impression of your home country's handling of homeland security is just one of many similar opinions I have about the United States.

Apparantly faith=patriotism here along with non-criticism of government policy. While I have serious grievances with my home, alas, there is no where else I'd rather live... unless the fundies take full control here and force a 511 year retreat to Europe so I can practice my non-religion in peace. Maybe the Aussies would take me, too...

This might be a stupid question but what makes an ex Taliban soldier an "enemy of the state"?

I'm just wondering if my Auntie is also an "enemy of the state" after all she is German and ex Hitler youth and gained her asylum in early 1945. (i.e before the war ended)

Of course the two aren't equal as I don't ever remember the Taliban attacking the UK.

amen-moses, thats a poor argument cuz most of the youth in germany were in the hitler youth. did she actually weild a gun or shoot at the uk's allies.

I'm kind of with Amen-moses on this one. Sounds like the Taliban guy has turned into an informant or spy and the US/Brit govt is keeping him safe and warm.

And what if someone killed a few allies as a member of Hitler youth? They were minors, acting under extreme propaganda and orders to kill the enemy or be shot themselves. The real criminals of war are the ones who shoved them into battle.

No she was local defense in her spare time (which is virtually every hour she wasn't working) and a nurse in her full time Job. At least she was until the night her Hospital in Hamburg was flattened along with the allied airmen she was treating, she ran from the city and eventually from the country (she should write a book about it actually, quite an adventure for a 17 year old although the gang rape she suffered at the hands of GI's only two days after being raped by a retreating SS soldier would probably make for horrific reading).

She never said whether she shot at anyone, I would assume she was probably just passing shells to AA gunners or something but she is a tough old bird so ya never know. Actually she was pretty lucky to be on the defence team rather than in the hospital otherwise she would have been killed along with her patients and fellow nurses.

Don't mean to get very off track here but I didn't mean to imply that all Hit Youth did. I'm pretty sure it was only in the final battles of the Allied invasion did they issue weapons to members of the Hitler youth, some said to be as young as 12, to defend cities like Berlin.

I agree totally. These people have held grudges against us going back to prehistory because of battles we have never even heard of or because of folk memories of wrongs committed by our forefathers. England is practically overrun with them now. They have infiltrated every institution and if we are not careful it will be to late to turn back the clock. They never seem to integrate properly, being fiercely protective of their culture and totally despise ours. They insist on harping back to some rural peasant idyll which never existed in the first place and blame us for ruining it. They should all be put on a plane back home if you ask me. Then we could stop them returning by rebuilding Hadrian�s Wall.
