I never had to write term papers for science class. A short story once, but that was peculiar. Still, I wonder how a teacher would grade a paper which expounded on the evidence against evolution (such as it is). As long as it's the proper format, right length, and spelled correctly, what's the diff? The kid obviously did research; does it matter if the sources were bogus?

i'm still trying to figure out what they're actually going to teach about these alternative theories. how long do you think someone can talk about alternative theories without bringing religion into it? i'd say one, maybe two sentences tops.

Looks like the author is Michael Denton? Anyone familar with this book? I'd look it up myself, but I'm too lazy/too tired and am going to call it a night...

There's actually a lovely critique of Denton's book right here on infidels.org:

<a href="http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/mark_vuletic/denton.html" target="_blank">http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/mark_vuletic/denton.html</a>

And yes, let me join everyone else in muttering and cursing.

P.S. - Anyone have an address for these school board nitwits? I'm inclined to send them a letter.

hmm, which one? The one where he attacks evolution or the one where he accepts it...

yup, it's the first one. The one where he's as clueless as any other cretinist. <img src="graemlins/banghead.gif" border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" /> <img src="graemlins/banghead.gif" border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" /> <img src="graemlins/banghead.gif" border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" />

Yep, that's Denton's 1986 Evolution: A Theory in Crisis. A wonder if Craig understands that Denton himself acknowledges that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming? Denton is no fan of 'Darwinism,' but he is certainly not a creationist in the classic sense. In his commentary in Darwinism Defeated? he actually talks about how absurd special creationism is.

Why is a philosopher qualified to speak on this?

Last I looked, Science (Particularly natural science) had little to do with philosophy

Just once, I'd like to see one of these discussions get specific about these so-called scientific challenges to evolution. It's always left suitably vague, and you'd think that it would be vital information.
