Buddhist and against this war. I don't think the gains the US may get from removing Hussein will outweigh the hatred that it will engender in the Middle East. Bush could be sowing the seeds of a lot more terrorist attacks that wouldn't have happened otherwise.
I guess my religious beliefs did influence my outlook, considering the teaching that every intentional act has long-reaching effects. (Although it's not a given that all Buddhists are against this war -- I know of at least one Buddhist nun who supports it.) lugotorix |

Not excactly correct. A more correct statement would be "...SOME Iraqi women are modern..." Ye, it is largely a secular country, but with many deep running religious roots. Remember, part of the rift in Iraq is because of religion. Shiite Muslims vs. Sunni (Saddam's side). Many of the women are still subject to barbaric religious (I know somewhat redundant) laws. There are many good articles out there from people who have recently been over there that I will have to post the links for. Many of the so-called "human shields" left Iraq with a completely different view. Many came back in support of the war, or at the very least, not against the action any more. |

I had heard that the Shiites tend to be the fundies while the Sunnis tend towards a liberal interpretation of Islam.
