This atheist is happy for a very simple reason-she loves being right!
Yup, being right makes me a happy camper- well, that and sneering down my nose at all the deluded masses of theistic humanity |

I am happy (though not strictly speaking an atheist, unless, like some, you consider Spinoza's view of 'god' atheistic) because if Jesus had anything worthwhile to say it was f**k religion, you don't need it.
More importantly, I can have a lie-in on Sundays. Utter bliss. |

I don't think there is anything about atheism that necessarily makes on happy or unhappy. There are plenty of unsatisfied, unhappy, angry and or depressed atheists in the world. I don't think happiness can be narrowed down to one thought, belief, or in the case of atheism a lack of belief. An individuals happiness (at least my own) is more complex.
My lack of belief, at times bring enormous amounts of satisfaction and joy and other times it is a source of pain (due to the prejudice in the world.) I also feel that happiness is a choice one makes (more often then not) and not something that simply is. I know people who handle identical situations differently and one chooses to make something good out of it, and another chooses to make something very negative out it. Brighid |

I'm happy because I can essentially do what I want without feeling guilty as long as I don't hurt anyone else. I'm happy because the world seems 100x bigger after theism, and I'm so much less scared to see what else is out there. I'm happy because I can be true to myself instead of not being allowed to have certain thoughts or beliefs. In fact, the ONLY way that atheism itself causes me to be unhappy is with regard to the theists in my life who are unable to be open-minded enough to fully accept or understand me.

I have always been an atheist. I never have believed in any sort of god in my life. I'm not always happy (in fact, I suffer from clinical depression), but when I am happy it rarely has anything to do with my lack of belief.

Atheists are happy for the same reason Christians are: they are certain they have The Truth™.
