Angry Dubya administration doctors EPA report

What I find most amazing is that this Administration is so brazen about its revisionism to official documents. They *know* that the public has access to the original version. They *know* that their act of re-writing them is in plain view.

But they're so pro-business, and so convinced that Dubya's war-time popularity can cloak all evils, that they don't even bother to try and hide their acts.

White House edits global warming report
Thursday, June 19, 2003 Posted: 9:36 PM EDT (0136 GMT)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House directed a major rewrite of an assessment of climate change, removing references to health and environmental risks posed by rising global temperatures, according to internal draft documents made public Thursday.

[...]

According to EPA officials and internal documents obtained Thursday, most of the original section on climate change was scrapped after the White House directed significant changes and deletions that emphasized the uncertainties surrounding the climate change debate.

The changes demanded by the White House were so extensive that the climate section "no longer accurately represents scientific consensus on climate change," according to an April 29 EPA staff memo. It characterized the revised draft as an embarrassment to the agency.

[...]

The revised draft also:

-Removed a reference -- and a graphic -- to a 1999 study showing global temperatures had risen sharply in the past decade compared with the previous 1,000 years. Instead it cites a study, partly sponsored by the American Petroleum Institute, that disputed those findings. Connaughton said the second study was reputable and the most recent on the subject.

-Deleted a National Research Council finding that various studies have suggested that recent warming was unusual and likely due to human activities, although the same 2001 NRC report had been commissioned by the White House.

Bush is out of his mind. He makes Reagan look like John Muir. He, Gale Norton and Allan Fitzimmons have got to go.

I wonder who the new EPA director will be. Probably someone from either the oil or timber industrie?

Get rid of him next year? I thought the entire idea of having an armed populace was so that the people being oppressed/screwed over wouldn't have to wait till the next election.

Come on all of those wack gov't conspiracy/gun toting hicks, Get in gear, your government is obviously not your government anymore, they are the corporations government now.

Isn't there some quote about the tree of liberty needing to be refreshed with the blood of tyrants and patriots? Time to start watering that tree already.

:banghead: And you know, if I post this story on a fundie website, they'll still be cheering Bush 100%, because we can fuck with the environment all we want--God gave man this earth and He will provide.

So how is it up in Canada, eh? Might move there temporarily, at least until Bush and cronies discover the WMDs there as well...

Seeing how Bush so obviously risks the lives, health and future of americans and the planet by allowing his industry buddies to fuck up the environment in return for campaign contributions and whatever other short term favours, I don't understand why most americans consider the possibilty that his actions in other fields (e.g. Iraq) are similarly motivated and similarly helpful to the population as completely outrageous.

Well, that they would be that open about it I find a bit surprising.

Editing it as such, though--I would regard it as news if he didn't!
