In grade 10 I got assigned Mr. Akune, a real jerk, as my science teacher for the second year in a row. For that reason I wasn't in much of a hurry to get to the first class after the 15 minute break and when I did saunter in 15 minutes late there was only one seat left, second row from the front, near Mr. Akune's desk (only one row to shield me). Sitting directly in front of me was the girl who's become my girlfriend early in grade 11 (she and I got to know each other initially because we were always in the same group of four during the supposed "labs," in which she and her friend who sat next to her did all the real work while I made jokes with a guy named Reuben who was also in the group). We eventually traded ICQ numbers and got to know each other really well online...we agreed to go to a movie....that was over 3 years ago now (going on 4 years? I'm not sure).

Long story short...

High school. Introduced by a mutual friend. Six months later, after my graduation, after two months of nervous hemming and hawwing by us both, I worked up the nerve to kiss her. June 28, 1997. Both of us, our first relationship ever. Five and a half years later, and I'll be proposing to her, probably this weekend.

I'm in an improv troupe. After my (one of my) grandfather died and I found my now-ex-girlfriend in bed with my roommate, I had to sit a semester out because I couldn't be funny. When I came back the next semester, Missy was there.

I can remember about two months after my ex-girlfriend put our relationship out of my misery, I was walking back with Missy from a show, we were talking and I was thinking "why can't I have a girlfriend this nice and sweet and cute," and six weeks later we were dating.

I was at a rock nightclub, drowning my sorrows after getting knocked back by a girl in my Music class at college. While I was on the dancefloor, I slipped on someone's spilt lager and sprained my ankle. A friend of mine saw what happened and helped me to his table. Sitting across from me was a small, intense, black-haired woman who looked the double of Death from the Sandman comics; she found my self-induced embarrassment tremendously amusing, and we spent the rest of the evening talking about nothing much.

We both slept on sofas at our mutual friend's house that night, and the next day I walked her to her house, before skipping off to the bus stop with a song in my heart.

We were students in the same class (14th class, which would mean kind of college in a high school environment).
