So yes, the mods watch each other as well as everyone else. That's why we get paid the big bucks (but so far I haven't found anyplace that will accept my Official Evil Atheist Currency). You're welcome to stay around, all we ask is that you be more civil in your posts so as to maintain some semblence of sweet reason in the forum. cheers, Michael |

Katey's right. Some people are too immature, negatively affected by stress, and/or unintelligent to be responsible for children. They, however, don't know this, and there is nothing we can do about it except to prosecute them when they accidently kill them. Perhaps this serves to remind some not to do irresponsible things, but in some cases, it's not clear that it was anything but a very tragic mistake that no one could have prevented.
About a year ago, there was a Court TV trial in which an obviously intelligent, professional business woman under a lot of stress needed to drop her two children off at daycare in reverse order from the usual. Consequently, after dropping the preschooler off, she forgot that the sleeping infant was still in the back of the minivan and just drove on "autopilot" to work, where she got out and locked the car as usual. No one in the parking lot saw the infant all day because of the tinted windows. The woman didn't even find out until after she picked up the older child that afternoon and went to seatbelt her in, at which point she was horrified to find the dead infant. It was obvious during the trial that she was an intelligent and loving mother who had, up until that point, taken good care of her children. She and her husband were devastated, lives wrecked. I'm not saying the situation with the "hair-appointment-woman" was the same; I'm saying we can't just assume stupidity or cruelty in every case. |

This is going to sound real corny, but I think one of my life's greatest accomplishments is changing a poopy diaper one handed, and not making a mess of things!
Doesn't sound corney. Just sounds like you haven't accomplished much with your life. |

What I find hard to comprehend in this case is how she "forgot" about her kids for three hours. Forgetting about a kid briefly, like driving off home and forgetting to stop by the daycare, is more understandable. Also, a kid left in daycare is not in danger.
