I don't know about that - I could probably round up a few people who'd vehemently deny having any monkeys as progenitors or relatives (even distant ones).

cheers,
Michael

If I recall correctly, the Catholic Church's position is that evolution happened, but God inserted the souls into the first humans to make them human. (Or maybe it's God splots a soul into every human at conception; I forget.)

Going to be a lot of souls in heaven, with all the bacteria around...indeed, if the rules hold, every bacteria that has or will exist will be there. Yikes.

How can the church hold that evolution and their religion both be right? I can see a deism point of view, where god began the universe, and hands off from there. But to say that evolution is accepted, and yet still hold that souls were in the first two humans, thereby saying Genesis is still correct...2+2 cannot equal 4, 5, and 6!

In my opinion, this view has as much credibility as Tycho Brahe's hypothesis of the solar system.

The Ptolemaic system has all the planets and the sun orbiting the earth. The Copernican system has all the planets orbiting the sun. The Tychonian system has all the planets orbiting the sun, but the sun itself orbiting the earth. It was a compromise position, adopted because Tycho accepted the bankruptcy of the Ptolemaic system, but could not accept the Copernican one. As such, it is an inconsistent hybrid.

Now likewise, if special creationism is true, then it is possible to say that humans alone, as special creations, have a soul. If evolution is true, then humans are one animal species among many, so that if humans have a soul, all animals must have one too. But to say both that evolution is true and that only humans have a soul is an inconsistent hybrid - just like Tycho Brahe's solar system.

Ah soul brothers and soul sisters, time for some more dancing. Earth people always had soles, it is not something earthlings are aware of conscioously.

To have a soul implies some sort of regular language which drives consciousness. It is like the foundation for regular actors and actresses.

A particular whirring of the brain can regularily cause you to put your hand into your pocket and pull out a finn whenever you encounter the needy. yeh.

Not necessarily. What if the soul were some quantum manifestation of self-awareness or high level intelligence? Which would then beg the question- do all those idiots I know lack souls?

Does you dog bark a lot? It takes a special class of readership to form opinions on the words I write. I am actually proud of your misgivings.

Try the second round of reading, I am hoping this may help you somewhat. If this does not work I will rephrase the words. A million thanks to you and your kin.

That is a possibility.

But I believe the afterlife is a natural law that is conferred upon all conscious creatures. I don't believe in a soul (disembodied spirit), I believe in an astral body (discarnate spirit).

Either view has no supporting evidence currently.
