Bleh. I'm fairly new to these boards, so I don't know about any past topics on this guy, but I wanted to know everyone's opinions on him.
Basically, a hypocritical sleaze-bag televangilist whose each word is more useless than the last. This article pretty much sums up my opinions of him. Anyone else? |

Ooops. I'm not sure if this is where to put it. It was either here or the GR forum. Moderators put it where it goes.

I've only read the first paragraph so far, but I'd like to point out that Ensure is used as a dietary supplement for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
My dad used to get 4 cases a month from the local cancer services because of the medicines used to help counter the bad effects of chemo would end up lowering the protein and calcium in his body. Ensure helped restore them to normal levels. |

And not that it excuses public money going to this moron's "ministry," but I suspect the panty hose are given to women who can't afford them. They need them in order to look professional for job interviews/work.
But artificial sweetener and confections? That sounds like coffe and donuts after church to me. Yeah, some charity that is. We're giving people coffee and donuts for coming to church. At least they could give them real sugar so that if they're starving they can get the calories. ![]() |

Let's see:
Son of a US Senator from Virginia; born during the Depression, though it never touched him; lifelong wannabe. Graduated summa cum laude from Yale with a degree in law, took the bar exam in New York in 1951. Failed. Never took it again. Years later, he founded the American Center for Law and Justice, a right-wing ACLU. Commissioned Second Lieutenant, USMC, served with 1st Marine Div. during the Korean War. His bio used to say he was a "Marine combat officer in Korea" until 1987, when two former fellow soldiers--both of whom had earned combat decorations--challenged that statement. Turns out ol' Pat served in the Headquarters battalion (mostly making sure the Officers' Club got its liquor) and never ducked a single Communist bullet in his career. Got religion in 1956; founded CBN in 1960, making him the Godfather of televangelism. Has hobnobbed with presidents, kings, popes and potentates ever since. Forecast Soviet invasion of Israel in 1979. Turned back a hurricane from Va. Beach, VA (CBN's headquarters) in the 1990s (can't remember just when). Won the early 1986 primaries here in Hawaii and, I think, Wisconsin. Then his "war record" came out, as well as the records showing that his oldest son was born a mere 10 weeks after his marriage. When that became public, his Presidential hopes were doomed. Hated Bill Clinton with a passion bordering on pathological. Has had secret deals with dictators in Africa including Mobutu Sese Seko and Charles Taylor. Founded Operation Blessing and bought a used Lockheed L-1011 as a "Flying Hospital", touching off a rash of other televangelists to buy their own hi-tech transport to the heathens. The FH did some work in Bosnia, but where can you land and support an L-1011 in the Philippines or Sudan? We haven't heard anything about it at all lately. Hates being called a televangelist, doesn't do interviews where he can't control the setting, despises atheists and Communists--and we musn't forget it was on his own "700 Club" that he and guest Jerry Falwell made their infamous "you helped this happen" speech only 2 days after the 9/11 attacks. Of course, he also described Scotland as "a dark land overrun by homosexuals", thereby killing an impending $50 million dollar deal with the Bank of Scotland and being removed from the board of directors of a home-accessories firm based there. Now at age 73, pushes nutrition and vitamins; I suspect he's seen the door open and felt the cold emptiness on the other side. Drive a stake through his heart, too. |
