Is anybody aware of a source that documents these confirmed resurrection incidents mentioned in this <a href="http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/state/article/0,1299,DRMN_21_1549703,00.html" target="_blank">pathetic</a> story?

According to my local paper, a couple have finally decided to bury their 2-year old son, killed when he toppled a file cabinet on himself, after a week of praying for his resurrection.

Their reasoning? Apparently, they believed Jesus could bring their son back to life. The father said:

I know confirmed stories of people who have been raised from the dead. We have really prayed for that. I know he [Jesus] can bring him [the son] back to life.

Why do these "confirmed stories" appear to be limited to a small sect of Christian believers? I've never seen one.

We [the couple] believe God still does the miracles today he did in the Bible.

Of course. I was talking to a burning bush just the other day. Exactly where are these miracles on the order of, say, the parting of the Red Sea, happening today? Or if he's talking about the more modest miracles of Jesus, where is the evidence for it?

Then a local minister chimed in:

In my view, Christianity as a whole is a denial issue. It's a denial that death is the end. Of course this was a denial issue.

When I see things like this, I take a step back from reality, point, and laugh like hell.

I read things like this, and laugh that Christians tell us with a straight face that the Gospel writers couldn't possibly be wrong about their beliefs into Jesus's divinity. People will believe the strangest stuff.

This morning's Denver Post (which doesn't publish on Saturday) has a followup story.

Apparently, the family isn't giving up quite yet.

"God just keeps saying, 'Trust me'", [the father] said. "I don't see this dragging out, but I'm not going to make decisions based on the world's expectations. I will pray until God says stop praying."

Apparently, he does understand how strange he looks:

But regardless, if God is just stringing them along (pray, though I'm not going to do a thing for you, appears to be where "God" is leading them) their faith will not be shaken.

We're not basing our faith on whether or not this happens. We've surrendered him back to the Lord, (saying) you gave him to us in the first place. It's really in your hands.

The fact is, no, I don't understand. Is it really God who is telling them to pray, or is it their deeply held and decidedly irrational belief that is driving this?
