I voted no, in that I am not in favor of the U.S. doing *anything* in Iraq. But I guess if they could remove Hussein with the first bomb and leave the rest of the country alone, I'd be more in favor of that then demolishing the terrain and the society only to have him slip through their fingers, a la Afghanistan.

Of course, I would like to see Saddam ousted. But I would also like to see Bush ousted. I fear an American victory under Bush. Call me paranoid, but I fear the future cockiness of the US Republican administration, and its impact on world affairs.
I also fear that a win will seal another term for Bush.

I voted yes . . .there now has to be some resolution to this. I have stated before in other forums I dont agree with this whole deal . . but to now hope it all falls over or that Saddam gets away is not an option . . . Looking at the Saddam video , you get the impression it was pre-recorded, maybe Saddam has been surgically removed . . that would be a fantastic, though improbable outcome. For Iraq and all the soldiers, the question really is, will the Arab states get involved and make this a Palestinian / Israeli question which opens up a whole other can of worms, I dont think Dubya wants any of that.

Yes, the consequences of defeat would be in sum more negative in most respects. I do however thing that it _ might _ be better if we suffered enough losses to halt this ideology from prevailing in the future.

Cynical world, cynical times.

I've been thinking about that but I'm struggling to see who they'd attack next.

They can't attack North Korea because they genuinely are a threat.

Iran? Now that really would be a bloodbath.

Syria, Libya or Cuba? Be serious.

What they really need is a country that doesn't have a particularly strong military, preferably with pacifist tendencies, no nuclear weapons and that they can access easily without needing cooperation from other countries.

Canada.

Some of them even speak French and we know how the Yanks feel about that at the moment.

Since the war has started, the only hope I have is that its over quickly and with the minimium loss of human life. I really can't see there being a good outcome from this though. Bush is likely to see his approval ratings go higher which in my opinion can only lead to more bloodshed.

I would rather see us lose thean win.

That having been said, the consequences of us losing are just as extreme as us winning. Should we win, our arrogancy will be fueled, and we'll take an even more "With us or against us" attitude than we already have. However, if we fail, what then? The most powerful military in the world losing to Iraqis. What would we do then? We'd need an ego boost. Bet yer ass that we'd kick the shit out of Cuba.
