Hey guys!
Just thought I would give some feedback on this topic since I am a female without any religious bone in my body. I was introduced to monotheism as a child, but fortunately, it never stuck. As I got older, I questioned all forms of religion and the belief in a higher power which always turned out lacking. It wasn't until I discovered a particular author by the name of Ayn Rand that I found my ideal philosophy. If one hasn't heard of her, she created her own branch of philosophy called "Objectivism." It turns out she was also an atheist who didn't believe in undeserved rewards in which feminists espouse. She knew that women's rights were already being protected by the Constitution as well as any other American. Rand also put thinking as a pre-condition to feeling and behavior. One's thoughts and beliefs about themselves and the world have an impact on what becomes of someone. In a nutshell, I am a strong promoter of independence, truth, and reason which guides my life and allows me to eliminate any alliance with faith-based groups and think for myself.
I am a housewife and have learned to seperate faith and reason as well as thinking and emotion. I don't believe gender is responsible for religious zeal or servitude, however, I do think there is a fair amount of social conditioning that affects people in general which sets them up to epistomologically doubt themselves from grade school to the universities. Religions just reinforce a bad situation and finish the job. I hope I've added some useful information to this chat. Talk with you some more later. Bye!

When we engage in religious discussion they both reveal that they don't really believe in any of it and agree with many of my atheistic positions. (It was claimed, though, that not too many people can think on such a 'high plain' as I do as if 'atheism' was some sort of strict intellectual exercise when it is simply stating the obvious.)

One is married to a Methodist and they now have three children, so he thinks it is necessary to establish social community ties with other families with similar aged children and 'church' is the best way to do it. He also claims that it is possible that without the 'controlling' factor of religious fear, the masses will collapse into anarchy <turns off CNN>

The other is now dating a Baptist who has a son by a previous marriage. He takes the child to baseball practice and wants to make inroads to a more established relationship with the mother who is a staunch 'church-goer'.

I told them both that they are truly like brothers to me. However, to 'use' the delusional invention of christianity to manipulate its sheep for personal gain is far more disingenuous and malevolent than merely blindly following irrational dogma. I told them that I needed to invent a pair of sunglasses with the ability to expose just how many other 'christians' in the general population hold to these same tenets.

Our conversation digressed from there and we don't talk much anymore.
Ah well, these are men you're talking about. Remember that with a man, sex will win out over logic and conviction every time.

Well, if people really want to know <a href="http://www.termpapersrus.com/categories/226-021.html" target="_blank"> Why Women are More Religious Than Men </a>, they can go to this link and order a term paper on it, LOL.

I read a little of sociologist, Stark's (he wrote The Churching of America) take on why. In his opinion, it's hormones! He says the other major area where there is a big gender difference in populations is prison populations. The theory for that is that testosterone = risky behavior. The correlation with risky behavior and religion is hell. He thinks women are more afraid of hell than men and more appeasing in nature.

Some supporting evidence he offers is that in religions where hell is not a factor, such as Judaism, men and women are equally religious (where praying and attending church = religious behavior).
